This article is devoted to the study of the evaluative function of slang units widely used in the media space in the era of globalization. The paper analyzes the emotional-expressive, pragmatic, evaluative, and discursive aspects of slang that influence the dynamics of language development in contemporary media discourse, as well as its role in regulating interactions between the addresser and the addressee. The aim of the study is to identify the evaluative function of slang in the media space under globalization conditions. To achieve this aim, the following objectives were set: to collect slang units from various media platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, and contemporary Kazakh films); to conduct an online survey (Google Forms) to determine the frequency and purposes of slang usage among modern youth and to identify the evaluative nature of slang units in youth perception; to construct the associative space of slang units; to analyze the evaluative characteristics of slang in youth cognition. The results of the study demonstrate that slang is not only a linguistic phenomenon but also an important discursive tool that shapes social evaluation and group identity. The survey findings indicate that 63% of modern youth actively use slang in everyday communication. In addition, based on the obtained results, the associative space of slang was identified and, in accordance with this direction, it was classified into several types. The conclusions drawn from this research contribute to describing the development processes of the modern Kazakh media language and to deepening the study of evaluative semantics.
