The article considers active characters in wedding ritual folklore. Wedding ritual folklore is a fundamental branch of ritual folklore. The connection between ritual and folklore is related to the definition of ritual ceremonies by folklore. In the system of family traditions, the connection between the national worldview and ceremonial rituals is determined within the framework of ritual folklore. In the Turkic worldview, wedding ritual folklore has a mythical basis. In this regard, specifically considering active characters in wedding ritual folklore allows reviewing rituals in close connection with folklore texts. The rituals performed during the wedding were preserved in folklore texts and passed down from generation to generation. The relevance of the study is determined by the individual consideration of active characters in wedding ritual folklore. The purpose of the article is to compare wedding ritual folklore in Turkic folklore, the active characters in the folklore of Kazakh and Karakalpak peoples, and to define their functions. In the course of the research, comparative-historical, comparative-genetic, semiotic, and plot analysis methods were used. As a result, the ritual folklore of the Kazakh and Karakalpak peoples, the series of active characters, and their roles were identified. The value of the article is related to the comparative analysis of the ritual folklore of the Kazakh and Karakalpak peoples and the individual consideration of active characters in ritual folklore. The results of the article can be used in research on ritual folklore, wedding ritual folklore, and comparative directions in Turkic folklore.
