The article is dedicated to studying the pressing issue of developing the intellectuality of primary school students in the process of learning English. The relevance of the study is determined by the state demand for the development of students’ intellectuality, recorded in the strategic documents of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where the formation of critical thinking, cognitive autonomy, and intellectual activity of primary school students is considered a priority educational outcome. In the current context, English at the primary school level is not only a means of developing language competence but also a significant resource for the development of students’ intellectuality, since foreign language activity involves analysis, logical reasoning, modeling, argumentation, and the transfer of knowledge to new learning situations. However, in the practice of primary education, this potential is realized fragmentarily and unsystematically, which necessitates a scientifically grounded methodological solution.

The aim of the article is the development and experimental testing of a cognitive-methodological model for the development of primary school students’ intellectuality in English lessons. The study employed theoretical methods of analysis, generalization, classification, and pedagogical modeling, as well as empirical methods of diagnostics, observation, questionnaires, testing, and mathematical-statistical data processing.

As a result, a structural-content model integrating cognitive, logical, and creative components of intellectuality, as well as a methodological system of learning tasks aimed at active intellectual mastery of foreign language material, was proposed. Experimental testing of the model demonstrated a positive dynamic in the development of analytical thinking, cognitive flexibility, and the ability to transfer knowledge among primary school students. The obtained results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed model and its practical significance for the primary education system.
