Galym Arip is one of the prominent representatives of contemporary Kazakh poetry. Originating from the Mangystau region, he is a guardian of historical memory and national spirit, possessing a distinctive poetic voice. His works clearly reflect the key components of national identity. In his poetry, the names of states significant to Turkic history (Saka, Hun, Kokturk), heroic figures such as Kültegin, Tonykok, Tomiris, and Beibarys, historical-geographical landmarks like Mangystau, Aral, and the Caspian Sea, as well as elements of oral tradition related to the Nauryz celebration and «bata», «duga» rituals, interweave harmoniously, forming a unified and aesthetically coherent poetic structure.
This study aims to reveal the poetics of Galym Arip, whose works provide rich material for understanding cultural identity. The purpose is to demonstrate that these cultural-historical elements are not accidental, but rather the result of the poet’s deliberate intention to shape national and Turkic identity. Another essential task of the research is to analyze the imagery, artistic techniques, and expressive forms employed by the poet in this process.
The article first examines the poet’s biography and creative path, identifying the connection between his personal worldview and poetic principles. The analysis of Galym Arip’s works is conducted in light of the theoretical concepts of cultural identity developed by Ziya Gökalp and Anthony Smith.
The object of research consists of the poet’s works dedicated to Turkic history, culture, and the problematics of national being. These include the poems «Қазақ қандай халық?/Kazakh qalay halıq?», «Қазақстан – Түркі дүние Отаны!/Qazaqstan Türki dünýe otanı», «Түркі дүниесіне тіл қату/Türki dünýesinñe til qatuv», «Санаңды биле!/Sanandı bile!», «Рухсана/Ruhsana», «Адамзатты ізгілендіру/Adamzattı izgilendiru», and «Қазақ болу…/Qazaq bolu…». A thorough analysis is conducted to uncover their thematic core, imagery system, and the multilayered meanings of the poetic language.
