The article offers a comparative-typological description of the linguistic representation of the «baylyk–kedeylik» / «baylyk–yarlylyk» (wealth–poverty) concept in the Kazakh and Tatar paremiological corpus. Proverbs and sayings related to wealth and poverty are not limited to the mere naming of material goods; they function as a cultural-cognitive core that fixes axiological coordinates of the national worldview, including social status, justice/truth, honour and shame, contentment, generosity and stinginess, unity and kinship harmony. The analysis relies on the principle of the semantic invariant: although the internal form of a paremial unit (image, metaphor, culturally marked realia, syntactic pattern) differs across languages, its shared semantic core can be interpreted consistently. The material reveals the evaluative function of oppositions such as rich–poor (bay–kedey / bay–yarly), having–not having (bar–zhok / bar–yuk), and full–hungry (toq/tuk–ash/ach), the critical layer concerning money’s transformation into a social power mechanism, and the dominance of «non-purchasable» values (honour, conscience, respect, harmony, unity). The conclusion argues that the conceptual sphere is systematised through at least four major semantic-pragmatic scenarios and specifies the pragmatic functions of paremia as advice, warning, norm-setting, social criticism, and philosophical generalisation.
