This article examines M. Abdakimuly's novella "Suleiman the Robber." Historical events that took place in the south in the first half of the 20th century are illustrated by the lives of individual characters. Specific examples demonstrate the writer's mastery of portraits, speech patterns, dialogue, monologues, color, and episodic plots to reveal the protagonist's character. The role of portraits in creating the hero's image is substantiated by the opinions of literary scholars. The fates of the heroes who fought cannibals in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, and Basmash in the mountains of Tajikistan after the establishment of Soviet power are examined in comparison with individual motifs from fairy tales and heroic epics. The presence in heroic poems of heroes who neither drown in water nor burn in fire is confirmed by the lives of Suleiman and Karaman. The story of Karaman and Suleiman, who were stoned and frozen from the age of fifteen and became beloved heroes of the peoples of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, is convincingly depicted in the work. The fact that both were repeatedly imprisoned in Kazakh and Uzbek lands due to their dissatisfaction with the Soviet regime and their personal views reveals their character. It has been scientifically proven that these Kazakh heroes, who lived in the same era and in the same region, who knelt in Tashkent and fought alongside their enemies, represent the truth of life, passed down from generation to generation as legend. It is noteworthy that the stories of the two heroes, while not legendary, are also drawn from life, just as the truth of life underlies the legend. Specific examples illustrate the writer's artistic quest to embody the truth of life in artistic reality.
