The article is devoted to distance learning of a foreign language using social networks. Skype acts
as an effective tool for increasing motivation to learn a foreign language. A brief history of the concept of distance
learning is given. the article discusses the main advantages and disadvantages of effective learning using Skype. The
main objectives of this study were to determine the effectiveness of using Skype in motivating speech skills of English
language learners, as well as to compare students using Skype EFL with traditional methods of teaching English. The
results of this study showed that using Skype develops EFL students ' speech skills and motivates students to improve
their speech skills by using skype to develop speech skills.
